Empower Farms Chicken Coop

The Empower Farms Chicken Coop is the result of a pro-bono collaborative design/build process to assist a non-profit permaculture farms in Homestead, Florida. The structure allows the farmers to produce eggs humanely with pastured chickens that roam daily across the property’s extensive fruit forest. As a light-weight structure on wheels, the chicken coop is moved daily through the alleys of the fruit forest, allowing chickens to eat fallen fruit and insects throughout the day. The coop serves both as a place for chickens to roost in at night free of threats from predators, as well as a point where farmers can centrally collect eggs during the daytime. The structure is thus designed to accommodate the physical and behavioral needs of chickens and humans alike.
