Cambridgeport Academy

The Cambridgeport Academy operates in a collection of structures that have progressively become sealed boxes, highly dependent on mechanical systems and artificial lighting. Alliata / Alcega’s proposal for its rehabilitation draws on some of the qualities of the pre-war segment of the campus to produce new environments that are conducive to improved learning, student performance, and overall health of the school’s community. The project uses both formal and technical devices to create possibilities for enhanced sociability, indoor/outdoor learning, cross ventilation, daylighting, and other qualities that research has proven contribute to the learning experience. It also redefines the school’s relationship to the urban realm, and plays close attention to sustainable building performance.
